ABSTRACT

Abstract@#Overweight and obesity among children is not only harmful to physical and mental health, but also associated with an increased risk of chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes in adulthood. Health related behavioral factors are one of the most important causes of child overweight and obesity, which commonly co occur and show a synergistic negative influence on health. The synergistic effects suggest that interventions are likely to be more cost effective and to maximize impact by targeting health risk behaviors in combination with the improvement of a variety of modificable behaviors. The present review aims to describe the update of co occurrence and clustering patterns of obesity related health risk behaviors, and proposes the future direction for prevention and control of overweight and obesity in children.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To understand the association between childhood abuse experience and health risk behaviors among college students, providing references for childhood abuse and health risk behavior prevention.@*Methods@#During Mar. to Apr. of 2016, 918 college students from 2 universities in Nanchong city were selected through cluster sampling, the survey included general demographic characteristics, childhood abuse experiences and health risk behaviors. Chi square test was used for univariate analysis, and Logistic regression was used for multivariate analysis.@*Results@#A total of 720(78.43%) of participants reported at least one type of health risk behaviors, overeating was the most common type[595(64.81%)]. The number of adolescent reporting smoking, drinking 5 or more beers at a time, fighting and suicidal ideation was 146(15.90%), 271(29.52%), 224(24.40%), 205( 22.33 %), respectively. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that a significant positive association between experiencing at least one kind of childhood abuse and the behaviors of fighting, suicidal ideation, and overeating; between childhood emotional neglect with smoking and suicidal ideation; between childhood emotional abuse with fighting, suicidal ideation, and overeating; and between childhood sexual abuse with smoking( P <0.05).@*Conclusion@#Health risk behavior in college students is popular. Childhood abuse can increase the risk of health risk behaviors of college students.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To provide a basis for college students mental health education and guidance, the impact of psychological aggression and corporal punishment college students experienced before the age of 10 on anxiety and health risk behaviors was explored.@*Methods@#In April and May 2019, the convenience sampling method was used to conduct a questionnaire survey among all the freshman and sophomore students of some majors in two universities in Harbin, including a total of 2 150 students. The contents of the questionnaire included general information survey, Parent-Child Conflict Tactics Scale (CTSPC),Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Adolescent Health related Risky Behavior Inventory (AHRBI).@*Results@#The percentage of college students who suffered psychological aggression and corporal punishment before the age of 10 was 80.05% and 58.37%. The detection rate of corporal punishment in boys and non-only child was significantly higher than that in girls and only child (P<0.05). The students who experienced psychological aggression and corporal punishment before the age of 10 had higher detection rates of anxiety state and six subscales of health risk behaviors than those who didn t experienced those (P<0.05). The Logistic regression analysis showed that, psychological aggression, place of residence, corporal punishment, and only child were positively associated with college students anxiety state (OR=1.85,1.53,1.49,1.34). The Logistic regression analysis showed that, psychological aggression, place of residence were positively associated with college students health-compromising behaviors (OR=1.60,1.26). Psychological aggression, gender factors, corporal punishment, and only child all influenced college students aggression and violence behavior (OR=1.75,1.66,1.63,1.28). Corporal punishment influenced college students suicide and self-injury behavior (OR=3.44). Gender factors and corporal punishment all influenced college students smoking and drinking behavior (OR=2.67,2.25).Corporal punishment and psychological aggression were positively associated with college students rule breaking behavior (OR=1.88,1.55). Corporal punishment, gender factors, and family income all influenced college students unprotected sexual behavior (OR=4.51,1.91,0.62).@*Conclusion@#Parental psychological aggression and corporal punishment college students experienced during childhood have a negative impact on their anxiety and health risk behaviors.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To understand mental health status of middle school students in Weifang, and to analyze its association with health risk behaviors, and to provide a reference basis for the effective prevention of mental health problems.@*Methods@#Using the self-designed questionnaire and Kessler l0 (K10), a total of 3 185 middle school students in Weifang selected by using stratified clustered sampling were investigated. Chi-square test and binary Logistic regression was used for statistical analysis.@*Results@#Among the middle school students in Weifang, 1 634(51.3%) reported good mental health, 854(26.8%) in moderate level, 394(12.4%) reported poor mental health, and 303(9.5%) reported very poor mental health. Sleep duration and smoking were associated with mental health of middle school students (P<0.05). Logistic regression analyses showed that, compared with adolescents with sleep duration less than 8 h, mental health among students whose sleep duration ≥8 h was better(OR=0.36); compared with non-smokers, students who smoked showed worse mental health status (OR=3.53).@*Conclusion@#Health-risk behaviors are closely related to mental health of middle school students. Relevant departments should strengthen education and publicity of healthy lifestyles, and pay close attention to the impact of health risk behaviors on mental health.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To identify the latent classes of various health risk behaviors among medical students and further analyze the correlation between different classes and depression.@*Methods@#Using the method of convenient sampling, 2 014 medical students were selected from Anhui Medical University in October 2018. Self-designed online questionnaire were used to collect demographic data, health risk behavior (including smoking, drinking, suicide, sleep disorders, mobile phone dependence and lack of exercise) and depressive symptoms. Latent Class Analysis was used to cluster individuals. Logistic regression was provided to further analyze the association between health risk behaviors and depressive symptoms for the groups.@*Results@#The health hazard behaviors of medical students could be divided into three separate classes: substance dependence group (8.4%), mobile phone dependence group (22.4%) and low-risk group (69.2%). The distribution of health risk behaviors of medical students with different gender, major, grade, only child, father s educational level, monthly living expenses, academic achievement and number of friends were statistically significant (χ 2=99.37,19.07,12.05,6.64,14.28,19.35,20.61,26.39,P<0.05). The results of Logistic regression analysis showed that after adjusting for gender, major, grade, only child, father s educational level, monthly living expenses, academic achievement and number of friends, the mobile phone dependence group was positively correlated with depressive symptoms (β=1.75, P<0.01).@*Conclusion@#Different ratent classes of health risk behaviors have different correlation with depressive symptoms in groups. It is suggested that school health workers should make individualized intervention plan for different types of health hazard behavior of medical students in the future educational activities, carry out stratified intervention, alleviate the symptoms of depression and promote the mental health of medical students.
